On Wednesday 18th October, Year 5 and 6 travelled to Canberra for three days.
We visited Parliament House, the National Museum, Telstra Tower, Questacon, the Mint, the Australian Institute of Sport and the War Memorial. Visiting Parliament House was a great way to follow up on our learning about the Australian government. After guided tours of the old and new Parliament House, students were able to Watch Question Time in the House of Representatives, witness a vote in the Senate and participate in role plays.
Other highlights of the Canberra excursion included: – experiencing the gusts of wind atop Telstra Tower – finding Phar Laps heart at the National Museum – making commemorative coins at the Mint – laying poppies at the War Memorial – feeding birds at the aviary.
