As I’m writing this article, MADD night has just finished. And what a night it was. I loved seeing the various talents from our Primary and High School students displayed right there on stage. I also loved getting up there myself to backup a couple of groups on the guitar.
While the MADD night was amazing, the memories that are going to stick with me most are the few weeks leading up to these performances. I’ve kept my classroom open during most lunchtimes with an invitation for Primary students to come and prepare or practise their items. Being that it was lunchtime, a great time for kids to enjoy a well earned break from learning and work, I was only expecting the odd group here or there.
You can imagine my amazement when this wasn’t the case. Every day, I had several groups coming in to work on their items. These lunchtimes were filled with singing, getting feedback on jokes, testing dance moves, troubleshooting backing tracks and tweaking performances. And every day I was amazed by the dedication that these young people showed, the effort that they put into their performances and the cheerful attitude that they showed.
The MADD night performance last night, as a culmination of this preparation, was certainly a proud teacher moment for me (not to mention a proud Dad moment with my daughter Ella also singing up a storm). It also reminded me of the verse from 1 Corinthians 10:31 – “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.”
These performances were yet another example of PCS students using their skills in a way that brings glory to God. I’m also proud to say this is something that is not new to our school. From the efforts of our student leaders to the hard work happening in our classes every day, there is a lot to be proud of.
What a great bunch of young people we have in our PCS community. Have a great week, everybody.
