Over the past couple of months, I have been quite heavily involved in the Agricultural Show Movement. In April, my fiance and I exhibited pigs at the Sydney Royal Easter Show and PCS exhibited laying hens in the poultry section. Last weekend, we were involved in the Dubbo Show as both exhibitors and as committee members (Wes being the President of Dubbo Show Society). Both of these events have allowed me to grow in confidence and be able to show my passion for Agriculture in real ways. They also allowed me to give back to my community in a small way by serving the people who attend these events. These shows are an integral part of the Agricultural sector in NSW and it is both an honour and a privilege to be a part of these events.
My role at PCS allows me to be a part of Agriculture everyday. I teach students about different agricultural concepts, encourage them to participate in events and give them real-world, hands-on experience in Agriculture. Our PCS Agriculture department is very new and it is a work-in-progress. I am so excited to see where our little department will be in a few years’ time and how much more we will be able to offer the students as we continue to grow. I love that I can teach something I am passionate about, however I would not be able to do this if it wasn’t for the community that I have around me.
The PCS community is a very supportive one and I am thankful everyday that I can be a part of something wonderful. I would like to encourage you to participate in your local community. It is a great chance to give back, even if only in a small way.
Have a great week and be encouraged,
Kristen
