It definitely feels like summer holidays are coming. This week the weather is heating up and there is a Christmas vibe around school. One of my favourite things about this time of the year are the celebrations! So many opportunities to get together and have some fun. Another of my favourite things to do once school ends – and I get some more time in my days – is to read. Reading for joy doesn’t happen often in term time so I really take advantage of it during the school holidays. There is nothing better than laying in the sun or curled up under the air cooler with a good book.
This week I spent some of a lesson chatting to some eager readers about some great things they have read trying to grow my To Be Read pile for summer. Whilst there will be a lot of housework, people and celebrations over my Christmas I do plan on dedicating some time to the wonderful world of a new book.
It was wonderful to see the buzz of students and parents stocking up on books in our recent Christmas Book Fair. A love of reading was in the air and a huge amount of support was shown to our school. However you choose to spend your time these Christmas holidays make sure you make time for what is important to you. Seek out some new adventures whether that is in the real world or in the pages of a book.
One book I hope everyone gets a chance to explore this Christmas features a wonderful story of Christ’s birth and is the reason for the season! Check out this verse from one of the books in the Bible: “For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6-7.
That is the kind of book worth diving into.
