You can see the excitement of the Parkes Show building the week before the Show. Putting the final touch on entries, students talking about what rides they will be going on, what exhibit they will be looking at, the fireworks or demolition derby, the motorbike stunts, young farmer challenge, horse jumping, show bags and even what they will be eating. (No dagwood dog or fairy floss for me!!!) In a normal year, the school buses drive past on their way to school and everyone is stretching their necks to see the tractors, headers, show rides, dogs and the horses over the fence.
The Parkes Show experience is different for everyone. Some like being part of a community event, some like competing, looking at the latest machinery out, catching up with friends, some love to go on show rides and walk around the pavilions to see if they can spot the prize of someone they know. For others, it is all about the events in the ring.
I am really proud of every member of our school community who competes at the Parkes Show. From egg entries, flowers, craft, sewing, artworks, photography, Junior Judging, Miss Teenager, animal entries, the Young Farmer Challenge, you are all winners for putting yourselves out there, doing your finest and competing.
God wants us to do our best at whatever we put our hands to, but this is not what gets us into heaven…… we have to accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour. We don’t get our prize until he calls us home, but we do get the peace of knowing that one day we will be with him while we are waiting.
I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God through Christ Jesus, is calling us.
Philippians 3: 14 (NLT)
