Stage 5 English Standard has been exploring a close study of the military novella, “Hell Island” by Matthew Reilly. We have looked at the way in which Reilly creates explosive action through language techniques as well as investigating the various aspects of military equipment.
Students were given the opportunity to research and create a model of a piece of equipment from the book to better understand the action.
Wira and Jack took on the challenge of the steam catapult and with generous help from Mr Wynstra, were able to demonstrate how a helicopter could be flung from the deck of a ship.
The assessment task for this unit is an essay and students are currently wrestling with the concept of creating an argument that remains consistent in its logic and rational in its approach.
