In staff devotions last week Mrs Nunn reminded the teachers of 1 Corinthians 12: 21-22 ‘The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable’.
After pondering these verses, there are many small learning steps in the Primary School that need to be mastered before any student can confidently apply their skills effectively. Each step is important and indispensable.
Kindergarten has learnt eight sounds over the last two weeks. Small steps; however with those eight sounds they are able to write a simple sentence and decode a simple book. They are on the way to applying their learning in the larger picture, yet the journey couldn’t begin until the first eight sounds were mastered.
Stage One has learnt the smaller steps of the alphabet sounds, however now they are learning to perfect sentence structure and use of descriptive language. With the smaller foundation steps mastered, the students recount writing will now come to life with details and descriptions.
Stage Two at the start of the term began learning tennis basics from Mrs Magill each Friday during sport lessons. Simple steps of racquet and ball control, however four weeks later students could be seen playing short games of tennis confidently and happily. Each step was important and indispensable.
Stage Three students have been learning how to calculate the perimeter and area of rectangles. For students to confidently find the perimeter, the smaller steps of addition were required and for area, the smaller steps of multiplication were required. With those smaller steps mastered the new concept could be attained.
Primary school is all about building on small steps, things that may seem little, but very important and indispensable. Well done Primary students for taking each step, mastering it and building upon it, to attain the larger picture of applying these skills effectively! Great job!
